How to Cut Multiple Clips from One Audio File

Mark podcast highlights, sermon excerpts, or interview clips and export them in one batch.

Pulling several clips from one recording should not mean reopening the same file and trimming it again for every highlight. WaveTrimmer's Multi-segment mode lets you mark the regions you need once, then process them together as separate clips.

Multi-segment mode is a Pro feature built for batch extraction, not for joining disconnected regions into one continuous file.

Creating multiple segments and exporting them as separate clips.

What Multi-segment mode handles

  • Mark up to 50 non-overlapping clips in one recording
  • Adjust every clip directly on the zoomable waveform
  • Apply one output format to the full batch
  • Export clips in timeline order, regardless of when you added them
  • Download one clip directly or multiple clips together in a ZIP

Step by step

Step 1: Open your audio file

Go to WaveTrimmer and drop your file onto the page. The waveform loads locally in your browser, so the recording never needs to be uploaded to a server.

Step 2: Choose Multi-segment mode

Use the mode control above the waveform to switch from Trim to Multi-segment. If you do not have Pro yet, WaveTrimmer will show the upgrade option before opening the mode.

Step 3: Add and adjust each clip

Move the playhead near the section you want and choose Add Segment. You can also press S while Multi-segment mode is active. Drag each segment's edges to set precise start and end points. Segments cannot overlap, and you can add up to 50.

Step 4: Choose the output format

Pick MP3, WAV, or AAC from the format control. The selected format applies to every clip in this export.

Step 5: Export your clips

Choose Export 1 clip or Export N clips. WaveTrimmer processes the marked regions in timeline order, even if you created them in a different order.

Step 6: Download the result

One segment gives you one audio file. Two or more segments give you a ZIP with separate, numbered clips. Use Back if you want to adjust the existing segments and export them again.

Extract all the clips you need in one pass.

Useful batch workflows

Podcast highlights

Mark the strongest answers, stories, or promotional moments from a full episode, then export every highlight without reloading the recording.

Sermon excerpts

Pull several topical passages from one service recording for sharing or archiving as independent clips.

Interview selects

Collect useful quotes from a long interview and receive them in source order, ready for review or handoff.

A few things to know

  • Clear all removes every segment after you confirm, without unloading the audio
  • Clip names are generated automatically from the source filename
  • Intro, outro, and normalization settings belong to Trim mode and do not apply to segment exports
  • Multi-segment mode exports independent clips; it does not join them into one file
